Better Than Wired Achieves Groundbreaking Wireless Reliability with OpenSafety PLCs

Ghent, Belgium, November 4th, 2025

Better Than Wired, a pioneer in ultra-reliable industrial wireless communication, today announced the successful completion of a multi-week safety application test showcasing B&R PLCs running OpenSafety over its next-generation wireless platform. The test demonstrated that autonomous mobile vehicles in a factory can maintain Safety-PLC communication with fixed assets over wireless links.

The results confirmed that the Better Than Wired wireless link sustained a stable, uninterrupted connection even in the presence of interference from other networks. Over several weeks of continuous operation, the safety PLCs never experienced a connection loss, underscoring the system’s industrial-grade reliability.

Instead of relying on traditional fixed-channel or pre-planned spectrum allocations, Better Than Wired’s technology dynamically selects spectrum slices on a per-packet basis, adapting in real time to avoid interference. This unique approach allowed the system to intelligently navigate congested RF environments while maintaining deterministic performance.

“We are redefining what ‘wireless reliability’ means in industrial environments,” said Dr. Giannoulis, CEO of Better Than Wired.  “Our platform proves that wireless safety communication can not only surpass traditional wireless systems but even rival wired connections in both reliability and determinism.”

During testing, Better Than Wired’s system achieved over 99.999% functional reliability (“five nines”), while maintaining a deterministic latency profile that never exceeded the PLCs’ maximum threshold. This combination of exceptional reliability and predictable performance demonstrates the platform’s readiness for safety-critical industrial applications.

“Our results with B&R’s OpenSafety stack confirm that our wireless technology can be trusted in real-world safety systems”, added Dr. Giannoulis.” This milestone marks a major step toward more flexible factories and process environments”.
